BLM Burl Bowl w/ a little personality added

I pulled out a nice piece of BLM burl that I had cut up in 2012. The blank was about 10" diameter and 6 1/2" thick, but the bottom 3" was too punky to use and was cut away.

Next, I put together a Black Walnut burl trim ring with pieces of Holly and added it to the Bowl.

This is the finished product. Finished with Minwax poly sanded back several times and then buffed.

Great looking bowl! Was the ring mounted before the inside (and outside) were turned? If that is the case, is it possible that stresses are now put on the ring? BTW, what is BLM?

I really like the final product. Very interesting. I especially like the use of a plywood disk to build the decorative ring. I am going to try that idea.

I turn my bowls inside and outside first, build the ring, flatten both surfaces to match and then attach the ring. I've never had any separations.

I think BLM means big leaf maple.

    Mike,
Exceptional bowl. Some great contrast on the BLM and walnut.....
