Steel wool has no place in timber finishing so anything is better than that. However, scotchbrites aren't great either. The best solution is fine -
280-320 - silicon carbide sandpaper in verifying stages of wear. Use it new on flat surfaces and when it is worn and floppy like a rag for turnery, carvings etc. Cheers
