    TS Blade for Cutting Sheet Plastic....

    Hi,
    I need to purchase a TS blade for cutting sheet plastic; I know that
    Forrest makes a 10" No Melt Saw Blade for $177.00(60T) to $216.00(80T);
    I was hoping to purchase a less expensive blade for infrequent use.....primarily cutting 1/16", 1/8", 1/4" etc sheet Plexi-glass and Lexan etc. Currently I use my MM16 and then use a 6" x 48" / 9" disc sander
    to smooooooth it...any thoughts on which blade and where to purchase it? OR is the Forrest sooooo much better?
    Thanks,
    Phil

    I would recommend 80T TCG with a low or negative hook. The Freud offering is the LU94M010 which has a special grind that reduces the amount of heat to be comparable to a 40T.

    This is probably all wrong but it has worked for me everytime. I get a ply blade and mount it backwards. Makes great cuts, never had a chip out problem and this is how I was told to do it 40 years ago.

    I cut Plexiglas for a living....

    ..as well as Sentra, aluminum, Gator Foam, Lexan, Formica, you get the idea. My main TS blade is a 40 T carbide combination. Plactic sheets are either cell cast or extruded. You, more than likely, will be buying the MC extruded plastic that has a much lower heat tollerance, and requires a faster cutting blade. The 80 tooth blade cuts way too slowly and melts the MC grade.You can route and joint the MC grade acryllic, ok. But, don't buy a cheap blade. The 40 tooth combination I paid 60 bucks for cuts all my work, well.

    I used my 40t WWII to cut 1/4" plexi. It cut perfectly. Too fast will chip, too slow will melt. Try a scrap piece. It is easy enough to find the right speed. We cut quite a few pieces to make a couple of computer cases.

    Freud makes some plastic cutting blades in the $50-60 range (depending on red/silver). Just search "Freud Plastic Blade" at Amazon.
