Thread: Aromatic Cedar

  1. #16
I'm in the process of finishing my basement, and one of the things I'm doing is making a cedar closet. I bought 1/4 inch cedar for the ceiling and the remainder is 1 inch thick for the walls and floor. I went out the Hearne Hardwoods to buy the cedar, which is very nice. Home Depot's crap doesn't come close to the quality of this wood. I also could've used a local mill, but the price difference justified taking a trip to Hearne's. I'm in the process of squaring all the edges, then I'll be tongue & grooving the materials for the walls/floor. I will be having a door on the closet, which I'll line with the 1/4 inch material. Each time I cut the cedar, the smell is fabulous. Can't wait till its all on the walls, etc.!

    Thanks Bob,
Is your supplier a local place or a dealer all WW worth their salt should be familiar with .
Is the 1" going to be your final thickness or is that rough stock??
Lastly is the 1/4 material dimensioned stock or a wood product????
    Thanks

    Tyler,

Hearne Hardwoods is a place that I learned about on the 'Net. Its southwest of Philadelphia, which is a decent drive from LI. However, their selection and prices were quite good IMO. It was also interesting to walk around their facility and I was amazed at their inventory. If you're in that area, or passing through, I'd recommend checking them out. The 1" thickness is after I had them plane the boards to a consistent thickness, and the 1/4" is real cedar, dimensioned to that thickness.
