    Forstner Bit....Extra long

I'm looking for a source for a 1-1/4" Forstner bit with at least a 6" shank.
I have a set but the shanks are only about 2" -3". I've found a bunch of places that sell Forstners but not long enough.....
    Thanks

Try doing a google search with 'forstner bit extender' or something similar. I can't recall where I've seen them, but someone makes a shaft extender. Dont have any idea how well they work, but they're out there.

I have one of those forstner bit extenders and it worked quite well when I needed it. I think I got it at an independant hardware store (pretty sure it was Mcguckins in Boulder, CO). I was worried that it might wobble and drift, but I had no problems with it at all. I'm also pretty sure the one I have is a "General" brand.

    Rich,

a Germany company - FAMAG - specialized in drill and router bits of high quality offers quality extenders up to 14 inches. In Germany one can mail order these parts at Fine Tools, Berlin.

The problem with some low quality extenders is that they do not hold the forstner bit centrically enough so that the bit doesn´t turn balanced.
