    Mahogany Open Segmented

I've always said that doing open segmented pieces is the easiest form of segmented turning. However this one is the most difficult segmented I've ever done and it only contains 12 pieces. I destroyed 3 of this design prior to getting one to stay together. It took that many tries before I got enough glue surface to hold it together. It measures 5-1/2" diameter x 2-3/4" tall and the opening is 1-1/2". Thanks for looking.

  2. Keith, you may want to consider filling those voids with some epoxy and green glitter....

EXCELLENT WORK! Your segmented work is always impressive to me. Another fine completed project.

Wow Keith, I just love the look of that piece! Way, way cool. I'm sure it was a lot of work but, the results are fantastic! Would you possibly have any "in progress" pics of how you did the glue-up on that? I think it would be real interesting to see! Thanks!

    Very cool!

It looks as though you've got a plethora of cross grain glue joints and it therefore comes as no surprise that they wanted to self destruct.

Great work. Always scared me when thinking about doing a piece with that much open space. Love the color and form. Just the right amount of opening between the ribs.

Actually, this is probably the time to experiment with colored epoxy or epoxy and coffee grounds. Those voids are far too large for glitter. The cost would be prohibitive....

I truly love your segmented work. I think it is about time to park the box tools for a while and get back to some segmented pieces. I won't be offering any competition but I will be having fun. Nice work, Keith.

Wow Keith, that is really nice. Glad to see you post a new one, I thought you might have retired from turning.
