Question Help!!! I don't have a clue! Critch Walnut?

I am trying to obtain information on crotch walnut. What is the definition of crotch walnut? I have a table made out of it. What time period did American furniture makers use this type of wood? Are they still using it today? Is there a web site I can go to to learn about it? Any help would be appreciated. I am a novice in the wood working field, 2x4 fruniture and porch swings, so I would like to get educated on something besides pine. Thank you in advance!

    Welcome constance!!

Crotch does refer to wood that comes from the crotch of a tree. Where the limbs seperate out from the trunk.
