Thread: Carved and Textured Walnut Bowl

    Carved and Textured Walnut Bowl

Here's the latest piece I've turned. I roughed this out a couple of weeks ago and ran it through the DNA bath. Finish turned it yesterday evening.

It has a lot going on from the bottom. I first burnished lines in the bowl to outline the texturing tool section. I textured it with a crosshatch and hand carved the squiggles using a V chisel. I wasn't quite satisfied with the bottom section so I gave it a little more texture using a dremel tool with a small burr between the squiggles.

    Andy,

That's just my logo. It's a person holding a bowl. I had a custom brand made last year with it.

    Thanks for the comments.

    Raymond,

Texture and other details add some great visual interest. It feels like it's just right, if you had done more, it probably would have been too much.

    Great job.

Raymond I know you put a lot of work in decorating this bowl. I tend to think more bland wood is best to decorate with carving, inlays, and texturing, but what does an old swamp rat like me know about design? I just know this is a beautiful piece of wood and I think your turning is just right for it with very pleasing curves, wall thickness, and a bottom which seems correct for it also. Thanks for letting me see it.

Raymond..........I like it! Beautiful wood....I like the combination of carving, texturing....everything! How does walnut turn? Today I came into some English Walnut grafted to Black Walnut.

Now that is impressive Raymond! I like the "simple" lines combined with the texturing.
