    Shaker Style Vanity finished

Here's a shaker style vanity I just completed and installed for my son and his wife in their home. It is made of soft maple. The panels in the side and drawers are solid 1/4" maple. They specifically did not want curly wood. The color is natural and the finish is Varathane Diamond Floor finish. They wanted as little yellowing as possible and of all the finishes I considered, this one seemed to offer the easiest application and least likelihood of yellowing. As it was to be installed in a bathroom, I figured a floor finish would be tough enough to withstand the humidity. Application was very smooth and I saw little grain raising even on the first coat.

The interior panels are made of 3/4" luan plywood from the Blue Borg. It is a baltic birch style plywood and I found fewer voids and better flatness than in their "Birch" plywood with a lower price per sheet.

The cabinet is styled similar to cabinets from the Orange Borg, but they wanted a 49" cabinet instead of the standard 48" cabinet and a shorter delivery, so custom building was the only option. It took just 3 weeks of partial weekends and a few evenings to make the cabinet from start to finish.

The vanity is assembled with pocket hole screws so it could be (though it actual wasn't) disassembled for transport. The drawer runners are metal 3/4 extension slide. The drawer boxes are 1/2" poplar with dovetailed corners.

The rails and stiles are all tongue and groove, including the mirror frame. The mirror frame is full inch thick and hangs on the wall using a french cleat.

Just ONE picture? We're supposed to marvel at that nice work with only ONE picture? Very nice-looking vanity, Lee. I'll be your son and DIL were very pleased with it.

    Sweet!

Great work Lee. I don't see how you manage to be so productive in the shop and still have time to help us amateurs out with all the great advice you post.
