Thread: Sticky stencil material needed.

    Sticky stencil material needed.

I need a peel and stick material that I can laser through to get the waste away and the cover off of the sticky. Turned over and stuck down, the top cover now comes off leaving the stencil behind.

Sounds like a three layer tape.... lasered upside-down.

Top is the backer and comes off last, middle is the stencil with the sticky, bottom is the protective layer.

    Maybe like vinyl sign material?

Sorry, don't know how else to 'splain it.

Anyone know of such a beast?

Mitch, just what are you trying to do? If you want to vector cut just thru
the stencil, remove it then paint? If so, the polyester based sign vinyls made for stencil work will do. Apply transfer tape to it, peel off the backing, apply to the substrate, vector lightly, peel off the transfer tape and the parts of the stencil that will be painted, paint, peel off the stencil.

This sounds a little bit like the method I used for lasering masks for sand blasting. I rastered the vinyl like a kiss cut (carrier still in place) then applied clear Contact paper (Walmart) to the top. Peeled the backing very carefully and applied the mask to the work. Then removed very carefully the Contact paper.

Mike and Joe.... both right. Now I'm just looking for the product. OR, isn't there one?

Hadn't thought of using the transfer tape over vinyl... Hmmmm... Contact paper. Walmart...

Even with contact paper (not really paper) make sure it doesn't contain PVC, if it says vinyl it may.

In my example the contact paper goes on after the engraving is done. Its purpose is to keep the mask intact during the transfer. Whether it's vinyl is of no concern.
