Miter Station Router table

My 1/2 of a two car garage can get tight on space when using it for a woodworking shop.


So after posting a question on a router table vs. table saw extension, and carefully weighing all opinions......... I have decided to build a router table. I am also wanting a table for my miter saw. My idea is to merge the two. What I have in mind is to combine Norms router table with the Shop Notes 82 miter station (sort of). Here is a top view followed by a front elevation of the carcass.


I will put a lift on the router. If I have to cut any long stock w/the miter saw I can simply push the fence for the router table out of the way (behind miter saws fence). The major drawback I see is if I make a mistake and have to set the router up again after tearing down the set up. Does any one see any major (or minor) flaws with my idea?

Looks good to me. Same principal (sort of) as a table saw extension router table. What's the clearance on the right side? Is that your planer? Got enough room over there?

I think you need a lot more DC going to the router cabinet - and especially to the chop saw. Can you run 6" to the router, then split it with a 4" to lower and 3" to upper? Then run at least 4" to the chop saw.

Here are the disadvantages I see:

1. Limited fence clamping options. (My fence clamps over the edges.)

2. Can't work from the back of the router table to take advantage of the wide side of an offset router plate. This makes working with larger pieces a lot easier.

If I were building this, I'd just put the router table on dual-locking casters and make it the same height as the mitersaw table so that it can be rolled out from the wall when needed.
