    Planer Blade Sharpening Fixtre

    Hello,
We have a customer who is looking for what he calls a bench grinder mounted fixture to sharpen/touch up his own planer and jointer blades with. Says he had seen one a couple of years ago but not since.
He sends us a couple of sets of his blades to sharpen every couple of weeks but wants something to touch them up in between professional sharpenings.
Is anyone out there aware of such a fixture and where one could be purchased. I thought with as many woodworkers there are here at Saw Mill Creek someone might know what he is looking for. Any help would much be appreciated and we will pass along the information.
    Thanks For Your Help

Hi Jim!, I've not seen a jig for a grinder but I made one that's just a wood block with a 90* 'V" cut out. Mount the blades bevel up and screw the cutout down to hold them. A piece of sandpaper on a block and you can stroke a microbevel on 'em in no time. I post a pic if your interested.
BTW everyone - Jim runs a nice sharpening bus.!!

    Rich,
Is this fixture used with or will attach to a bench grinder? Looks like it might be for holding the blades at the proper angle for hand honing.
    Thanks Jim

You are correct, it's not for grinding it's for hand honing.

Paul, I didn’t mean to step on any toes but when Jim said he didn’t need a picture at this time I figured you wouldn’t be posting one. Thinking others might be interested I posted my stolen one. Sorry

Several options here. There is a knife holder for the 1055. Tormek offers a knife holder option for their grinder. Makita and Delta offer knife holders for their sharpening centers.
