Lumber rack: 2 supports 4 ft apart = sagging?

I'm thinking of buying the Triton lumber rack. It has 2 supports which I plan to space 4 ft apart. I probably won't be storing anything over 10 ft.

Should I buy two racks so that there are 4 supports instead of 2, or is this overkill?

    Andy,
No, it is not over kill. I tried the Triton racks and was not happy with the support they gave. I probably was trying to put too much on them. If you are placing 8ft lumber on them, you will need two sets. I ended up ordering the Lee Valley (heavy duty) racks and am very pleased with them.

I keep the space between supports to 2 feet or less, no problems but I use more "arms" with less load. This also keeps me from having to dig for the stuff on the bottom as my boards are never stacked more than 3 or four high.

Andy, I had the same concern about the Triton rack. So when I built mine, I used the heavy duty adjustable standards from Home Depot, and put one on every stud. I'll try to post a pic soon.

Generally lumber needs support at least every two feet

I agree with Steve, max spacing should be 2 feet with 16 inches prefered. Mine ar 70 inches apart but they are decked with 2x6's

I would prefer them to be closer and no decking
