Question Snappy Shelf Pin Drill Bit

Does anyone have/use the Snappy 1/4" shelf pin drill bit? It is used with a template that has 3/8" holes that center the bit to drill a 1/4" hole. I want to buy one but I would like to go ahead and make the template. The questions is, how thick can the template be? I would like to use 1/2" Birch but it may only work with 1/4" or perhaps 3/8" thick material to achieve the depth of the hole needed. Any help will be appreciated.
If sawdust were gold, I'd be rich!

    Hi Byron,
I have used a section of pegboard as a jig and a 1/4" bit. The holes are spaced @1" and you can do long runs without moving the jig. I didn't have any difficulty with the pegboard holes enlarging/distorting with repeated use, and I would just use the next row of holes for a fresh set. Very simple. JCB.
