    what's the ultra shiny surface....

LOML & I went to a furniture store last weekend that was offering the rustic look stuff. The kind of furniture made from logs and big slabs.

I noticed on the pieces with large flat surfaces, mostly tables, that the surface appeared to be finished with something that was very thick and extremely shiny. I don't think it was polyurethane since it'd have to be about 30 coats to get that thick.

    What is that finish?

    liquid resin...

..a plastic resin you pour on.....carefully. Never had the need to use that application, but see it now and then on restaurant tables and such.

Would this be the same as coating the surface with epoxy? I think I've read on the West System site about using their epoxy as a coating. I believe they have a hardener (I think) to mix with the resin that results in a crystal clear mix.

Or is that just for boats?
