    Electrical Ground Question

My stepson is installing a chain link fence along one side of his driveway. Where the fence will meet the house there is an ground rod within 6 or 8 inches. This is rod is used to ground the electrical panel. Is this something we should be concerned about?

I realize this isn't a specific Workshop-related question, but I'm moving it to that Forum because that's where we're putting the electical posts.

No. The chainlink fence posts ALSO stick into the ground and provide "ground" don't they? 6-8 " of air is one helluva insulator. No problem.

There's no danger of "electrifying" the fence. The only thing that might be a concern with sinking a post that close to the ground rod would be if the digging somehow damaged/destroyed the rod or interfered with it's soil contact/ground connection. IMO, that would be a small concern given proper care and attention to sinking the post hole.

Do take care with the post hole though as anyone who's sunk a ground rod can tell you (and I've done my fair share) they don't always go in straight and plumb, so what you see on the top, might not be where it's at underneath.
