Just finished my mobile TS base rebuild

I bought a new Delta 36-682 10" Contractor's Table Saw w/1 CI Wing and 30" Biesemeyer Fence and Tableboard which is great, but about twice the size and capacity of the Delta mobile base (the one with the user supplied hardwood rails.) Always looking for ways to stretch the tool budget, I hated to go buy an expensive new HD base. I also wanted to build a cabinet under the table and a storage "wall" on the left side of the saw. So, I took the Delta base apart and rebuilt it with steel, oak and plywood.

I had some old garage door openers that I salvaged from my neighbors remodeling project. I cut the steel angle iron from the overhead track with my sawzall and made new rails with 2 lengths of steel forming and upside down "U". I ripped down some oak trim that I saved when we threw out an old wall unit, ok a bit cheap... I bolted the whole sandwich together with plenty of liquid nails, drilled the bolt holes for the Delta corners and lifter.

To support the heavy right legs of the saw, I cut a 3/4 plywood floor and glued and screwed 3/4 ply "bridges" on either side of where the legs would hit. I screwed the bridges to more angle iron. It came out about a solid as the concrete floor (almost ).

I am very proud of it and I got to teach my 12 year old son about the value of pride of workmanship as he argued that it was stupid to paint it. It came out looking sharp and the "Dad it looks great, painting it was a good idea," was sweet.

    Now to start on accessories...
