Thread: SU Output?

  1. #16

    Amazing.

Wow! There's gonna come a time when we don't need to make our furniture in the shop. We will just sit our virtual selves on virtual chairs and live in virtual houses. I never saw the matrix, but I think we are getting close.

Thanks for raising the art of SketchUp.

Neil, thanks for passing on the tip! For normal drawing, I've not really been caring about the faces being innies or outies, but if I decide to embrace rendering (and who can resist that for too long... ), I'll have to learn to mind my Ps and Qs!

I told Neil to make the back color obnoxious and he did. I think that's a good idea for evryone using GSU. As it is the differences are rather subtle, especially if you have problems with color vision. Thanks for adding that Neil.

I just thought I'd add this to give you all an idea of how I lit the model of the house. This rendering was done with the same light settings but at the fastest so the quality isn't as good.

    Aloha,

    Thanks for the tip!

After downloading, I seem to be having trouble finding where it went or how to initiate it in Google SU.

    Suggestions, please?

    Thanks!

    Hi Ken.

Look for Podium in the Plugins menu. It should be there.

And here's a recent quickie. 1 min, 8 sec to render.

Ken, read the information on the suplugins site. It'll give a good start.

OK, Dave.....I'm feeling pretty dumb right now. I'm looking at my Google SketchUp interface, more specifically at the menus across the top. I don't see a "Plug-Ins" menu item. Am I missing something? I made sure that I am using the most recent version of the software, so I'm stumped.

I've also not had my coffee yet today, so that may have something to do with it...

I need to note that there may be something in the Podium distribution (at least the free evaluation) that my system identified as spyware. While I like it's integration with SU, I think I'm going to concentrate my efforts on learning the free Kerkythea.

Jim, Kerkyhtea is a good thing to learn. It has more capability than Podium will.

I imagine there are a lot of folks that will find the final offering price worth the time savings.

    Aloha,

"I'm looking at my Google SketchUp interface, more specifically at the menus across the top. I don't see a "Plug-Ins" menu item. Am I missing something? I made sure that I am using the most recent version of the software, so I'm stumped."

Same thing happened to me. What I ended up doing was:

    - Close Sketchup.
    - open Windows Explorer
    - click on My Computer
    - click on C: drive
    - click Program files
    - click Google
    - click Google Sketchup

There should be a Plugins folder. If Podium has its own folder, move to Plugins folder. Reopen Sketchup. You should now have a plugins tab at the top.

Hope this works for you as it did for me.

    Aloha

    Aloha Ken,

You should alos make sure you have a file called sketchup.rb in the Plugins folder. If you don't open the Examples folder and copy it from there into the Plugins folder.

The problem some folks have is when they run the installation EXE is not changing the target location to Program Files\Google\SketchUp from Program Files\@Last\SketchUp. If you don't have the @Last directory on your computer, who knows where it goes.

    Aloha Dave,

Thank you for pointing that out. I checked and it was there, but if you hadn't mention it I would have had no way of knowing otherwise.

Okay here's where I'm at. After following the SUPodium tutorial, I was able to preview a very nice rendering in the little preview box. But after saving the file as a jpg, I noticed that some of the edges of the rendering are quite jagged.

    Is this normal?

    Aloha
