Raymond - tell your Dad I like them! Great shape on each bowl but what impresses me the most is the color. Makes the bowls look like they have been around for years and have that 'aged' look about them. Great job!

If you can - ask the Master how he created that 'aged' look and let us know.

Great job by your dad, Raymond. It'd be great if you could "Creek" 'im! I'm sure you've probably tried...

He's around. I just haven't had the time to sit down and do a photo 101 with him yet so he still asks me to post for him. He should post anytime now.

    Oak bowls

Yes I am around and read "the creek" daily. I just am not a very good computer operator. The wood came from a Friend of mine's old home place. It was cut in the last 6 months and I salvaged a piece to make these bowls for him as a souvenier from home. The wood had spalted and taken on these color. I guess I could say God did the coloring and I just uncovered it, added Dniish oil and on the large one lacquer. I am amazed every time I turn red oak at the colors. I really like to turn it and since Santa brought me a angle drill and 2 inch disks, it finishes very well. Of course it is needless to say very sharp tools are a must. I plan to take these pieces to him this weekend. Thanks for all the comments.

Hi, Mr. Overman! Wish I could get my dad into the Abyss but he won't leave the golf course long enough to do anything else, 'cept go to church! Oh well, he'd just show me up anyway. Your friend is lucky!

Wonderful pieces Dale! Looks like Oak is making a comeback. The coloration really sets these apart from some of the other oak pieces I've seen, but I have seen this type of darkening in the wild....just not this big! Nice finish too.

Dale those are excellent pieces. I like the rustic looks of them. Nice job.

Raymond, tell your Dad he's a man after my own heart...OAK...YA!! That big bowl looks like the Papa to one I did a while ago. In fact, I had to do a double take. http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=45915

Dale, you have had better luck than I have with oak. I like your classic style.
