Nice 'Creeker visit with Alan Turner

I stopped by the Philadelphia Furniture Workshop this afternoon on the way back from the DC area and had a very nice chat with Alan Turner...I even fondled a couple hand planes and chisels as well as drooled (well...figuratively speaking) over some of Mario's incredible work.

The workshop has changed quite a bit since my last visit during the grand opening celebration...there are walls, purple doors (!), a new spray booth under construction, etc. Unfortunately, I didn't have a camera with me...this time around.

Tom and Don are right Jim., but I'm gonna bail you out this time. I had the opportunity to drop by PFW on my annual trip to Colonial Williamsburg a couple of weeks ago. The changes and improvements in the shop are amazing to see. What a difference from a few months ago. I went in with Alan on a Saturday morning and got to see the start of a carcass making class that Mario Rodriguez was running with Alan's assistance. As usual, I was lurking around with my camera and sneaking in the occasional shot. Here's Alan finishing off one of the stools that the students use at their work benches.

No camera? Are you sure you're really Jim Becker? This sounds mighty suspicious to me.

Hey! I remember that shop, but it was without the purple colors then. I did see a Krenov style wooden handplane Mario had lying around, you could tell it came from skilled hands. Alan is a good host, and very patient too

Oh, ok...I could have shot something with my phone, but it wouldn't have been worth posting--the girls messed up something that I haven't had time to fix. Incredibly, however, the place looked like Dave's picture! And those stools are very comfortable. The logistics of my trip requiring about 8 hours of driving rather than the train or plane did nothing to mitigate my CRS disease relative to throwing one of the cameras in my bag. This time...

But I also missed Mario by a few minutes. It would have been nice to chat with him, too...
