    Segmented bowl

Here's another segmented bowl. This is based on a design from my friend Russ Fairfield. Segmented oak, with a walnut foot & rim. After rough turning, a wedge was cut out and replaced by one made from maple & walnut, then finished turned. About 8" dia.

Outstanding as usual Randy. You do have a way with wood.

    Very nice....

I must be slipping deeper in to the abyss.

This is the second segged piece I've seen today that I like.

    Well done, Randy.

Just another fine example of why you shoul fall headfirst into the abyss without looking. I am astounded at the beauty and contrast of this piece. I love the rouondess of the bowl just disected by straight lines. Makes for a very pleasing visual for me!

Wow Randy! Great looking piece of work! Beautiful form, wood and finish.

Your design is unique and made me wonder how you made it. Seriously, very nice work!

Thanks for all the comments. As I mentioned, the design is not mine. I saw it on Russ Fairfield's web site (http://www.woodturnerruss.com/GalleryOfTheNew.html) and really liked the looks of it, and I thought it would be a challenging project.

It's basically a circular form, about 8" dia. I glued up the oak and walnut segments/rings and rough turned the bowl. Then mounted it to a couple of pieces of MDF (one on the top, and one one bottom, and used a bandsaw to cut a wedge out, then sanded those surfaces. Then glued up the walnut and maple ring. Multiple trips to the belt sander to taper to get it to fit into into the open wedge shape. Then glued it using a couple of band clamps. The completed the turning.

Randy, thanks for pointing out Russ Fairfield's website. I went there and checked out the original version of your bowl. While he has some very nice and varied work, I have to say that I still like your bowl.

Copy or no - very nice work!
