    Downloading files in Firefox (Resolved)

I've found that in the Project Plans Forum, the only way to download the zip files in Firefox is to: right click, Save link as, Rename the file from attachment.php to *.zip, then open the zip file from the desktop.

Others are having the same trouble and I hadn't heard if there is a fix for that. Any ideas?

Yes, I have the same problem using Firefox (when clicking the attachment it brings up a "you do not have privileges dialog ...".

I hadn't even thought of saving the files as you've suggested.

Sorry I couldn't be of help but if I figure it out, I'll let you know.

Chris, please read the sticky at the top of the Plans Forum. Your inability to download is different than John's in that particular forum. The Plans Forum downloads are only accessable to financial contributors of SMC.

John, this is apparently a "feature" between Firefox and vBulletin and there is no current "fix".

    Thanks Jim,

I did some Googling around to try to understand the issue and was quickly over my head in technical details of "content-disposition headers."

I think what I learned is that Firefox tries to speed up the downloads by not asking for the name of the file which it is downloading. This has a speed advantage, so for some purposes, it's a feature. It also means the receiving system can't automatically open a downloaded file because it doesn't know what program to use to open it, so for other purposes it's a bug.

Partly because there is no agreement on that, no one has registered to try to fix it. Bummer.
