    Direct links to WW'ng site

    This is not a complaint, but a request for clarification from the moderators. It seems to me that the TOS says in so many words, no posting of direct links to other sites is allowed. Yet I see it happening so many times on SMC that I'm confused.

    A couple of times that I posted direct links, the post was deleted, but I see them often when I go through "New Posts". What's up?

    It feels really great to sell a pen;
    It feels even greater to give one to a friend!

    If your presence doesn't make an impact;
    Your absence won't make a difference!

    Direct links are fine (and encouraged)as long as they are pertinent to the discussion. The exception is links to auction sites and other forums (woodworking related or otherwise).

    Thanks for that Lars. Makes sense to me!

    Lars has it exactly correct. I might add that references to other woodworking and auctions sites are OK, as long as it is not a direct link.

    Hope this helps.

    Direct links in signatures are the other prohibited form of linking at SMC. (We have one unwritten exception on that which is a direct link to the SMC Donations Page as in my signature and John's)

    Moderators do pay attention to "excessive linking that is obviously promotional by someone trying to sell something"...and will make a judgment call should it be necessary.

    Signatures should not contain company information or any information that would be considered advertising. This is done to keep things tidy around the Creek and to keep things on a woodworker to woodworker basis.
