    final finish over white wash

I am building a blanket chest out of white oak, and my bride wants it to be finished in a white wash style to match the bedroom furniture. I have a qt of General Finishes water based white wash stain, and wonder what to put on it for a final finish. I normally just use a wipe on poly for my other projects, but wonder if there is a better final coat. Any suggestions on what to use to keep the color and not "yellow" it? Thanks...

To avoid yellowing you should stay with a waterborne acrylic varnish.

We have an entertainment center that we whitewashed, and the final finish is three sprayed coats of lacquer. It's been in use for about 10 years and still looks as new as the day it was put in place.

There are two reasons to use a waterborne acrylic final finish. First, waterborne acrylics are generally water clear and will not add an amber cast to the white wash finish. Second, waterborne acrylic will not off-gas which leaves an odor that will permeate cloth or clothing items.
