    HVLP spraying basics?

I bought a 2 stage HVLP sprayer at an auction for several dollars, but it was missing the instructions. I have used it in the past with limited success, but would like to begin using it on bigger projects. Can anyone suggest beginner finishes that can be sprayed as well as how to determine how thin the finish should be to prevent bad results. I have tried to spray brush-on-lacquer and it had an orange peel look.

    Thanks,
    Rick

Rick, try contacting the mfr for the instructions. Go to the net and see if you can find them. Usually mfrs have tech support areas where you can send them an email for help.

Other than that, based on what you have already mentioned, I would recommend that you not use brush on material for any kind of spraying activity. I use water based dye that is usually put on with a rag, then 2# cut shellac which is sprayed on and then water based lacquer for the top coat.

    Good luck.
