Stanley Plane

A friend gave me a Stanley J5 electric plane not long ago. I was too busy at the time to look at it, but I just took it out of the box. It is an impressive machine, I wanted to know a little bit of information about it such as.....when these things were made, replacement parts, how much it's worth in very good condition, etc.

You might Google "Old Woodworking Machines" and follow the links to the forum at that site. They mostly do stationary machines (properly known, I understand, as "old arn"), but a lot of the folks there are pretty knowledgeable.

I haven't had the impression that older portable electric tools are much in the way of collector's items. I've picked up several juicy little critters dirt cheap at garage sales, because I like that kind of thing (in fact, I have to hold myself back), but I'm hardly a collector.
