Thread: Red Gum Hollow Form

  1. Red Gum Hollow Form

Some guy had this wood for sale a while back on the classifieds here a while back... now I can't find the e-mails we exchanged or the ad in the classifieds... so if you're still here - THANKS!

It ended up 5-1/2" wide and just shy of 3" tall. Antique oil is the finish.

Comments and critiques of all flavors welcomed.

Great piece! The inclusions are awesome. Is this buffed and waxed as well?

Beautiful piece Mark! Love the rich color and all the voids!

Been thinking of getting into hollowing more than what I have. What do you prefer/suggest to use for hollowing tools? Hope to be able to eventually turn some larger items - say 10" to 12" deep. I have been checking out the monster captured system and debating if that is the way to go.

Very nice Mark. I have a piece of red gum at home too. Just curious, how was it for turning?

I'm not the best one to answer this, Steve. My rig is homemade by Travis & Jim... I copied by backrest off the Jamieson plan that Dennis used. I use Scorpion bars in a homemade D-handle. I've heard lots of good things about the Monster setup. Maybe some others will chime in with some good recommendations.

Turned like hot butter - I kid you not. I wish I had a shop full of this wood.

A winner, Mark. The color is awesome and that "natural" opening really makes this piece special and unique.
