Thread: My First Pens

    Smile My First Pens

We got rained out at work today so I made a trip to Woodcraft and got set up to start turning pens. I never had no interest in turning pens until I seen that beauty that Jim Shaver posted last week...WOW!

Here are my first two attempts. The first one I did is the Box Elder burl pen. Not all that great but for my first pen I guess its not too bad and I learned while turning it.

The 2nd one is turned out of a knarly little piece of Walnut. It turned out a lot better than the first and and has some great chatoyance.

Both are finished with CA and BLO.

    Comments/Critiques always appreciated.

    Happy Turning,
    Shane Whitlock

Nice job on the pens! You have my congratulations on that and my sympathy for the beginning of the addiction.

They look much better than my first pens. I guess I'm going to have to try the CA/BLO finish again. My first couple of attempts were ugly so I went back to the Mylands friction finish. These are sharp.
