Are those tops just painted or is that plastic? If plastic I think Id pass no matter how low the price.

I think that they are a cast metal of some type, but can not be sure if its cast iron or aluminium.

I purchased a Rigid Fuega 6 1/2" circular saw about a year ago. I needed a small light weight saw. I experienced a very dangerous situation when the blade bolt kept loosening up. I seemed to be machined in the right direction but wouldn't stay tight for some reason. I returned it and bought the 5 1/2 Skill saw which has been a joy to use. I own a slew of Rigid tools (band saw planer etc.) which have worked perfectly. I'll get the Rigid combo sander next. Check out your tools carefully before you begin using them.

    Cast Iron

Doug the top is cast iron on mine. I keep it waxed against rust. I am very satisfied with mine. Marc S also has one.
