    Cherry Natural Edge

I spent the day turning with George Guadiane and this is the result. This was my first try at a natural edge and I'm thrilled with it. My thinnest piece yet at about 1/8".

About 8" at its widest point - 2 3/8" tall
    Cherry
Sanded thru 600 - added some olive oil when sanding at higher grits
    Buffed finish

    Jason...

V-e-r-y nice bowl. I like the form very much.

I just scored some cherry from a friend's camp in the Adirondack's. Some of which, I want to try turning NE bowls.

I'm curious about your blank. I gather it was already dried. Do you know how long it took to dry and was it sealed beforehand?

I was thinking of turning a few bowls right away with the wood I got yesterday. I didn't get to Anchorseal it yet, as my local supplier was out of it. Hopefully, he'll have some in by tomorrow.

    Don,
The experience I gained can't possibly be measured and yes, George is a wonderful teacher...and a great guy all around. We plan on doing it again once the Summer craft shows die down a bit.

And yes, I'll bring it along next meeting...George said you'd like it ;-)

That's a beauty, Jason! Really nice. I love the sapwood ring.

    Philip,

I can't be sure when the wood was actually cut but it was pretty green. It had not been anchorsealed previously.

I've had some good luck turning green cherry. It's gonna move a bit but I've got pretty good consistency in thickness so I'm hoping for the best. If anything "bad" happens, I'll post pictures.

If I just got the wood and wasn't going to touch it for a while, I'd seal it up...can't go wrong with that.

Also, I wanted to have a nice bark edge but it didn't work out. It stayed on until I got down under 1/2" and then I started losing it.
