I Hate Cold Weather

We live south of the Mason/Dixon line but with the temperature holding in the twenties for days on end not far enough south. The cold bothers my arthritis and makes a waterfall out of my nose. Did I tell you I hate cold weather? The pictures showing on an adjacent thread sent a chill right to my bones.

Made a terrible mistake this year and went to Tampa, FLA. right after Christmas. There the daytime temperature was holding in the high 70's, night time in the low 60's. Upon returning home my wife and I both went into a depression.

Anyway, the point of this story is the shop is so cold I haven't spent more than 15 minuets at a time in it since before Christmas. Yes, I heat it with two kerosene heaters but it takes three hours to heat up to a comfortable temperature. By the time it has heated up I've either lost interest or my wife has found something else for me to do.

Just went outside to get the paper. It's snowing and 23 degrees. Did I tell you I hate Cold Weather?

Some might ask why stay here and the answer to that is two lovely granddaughters live close. There is another grandchild on the way. We don't want to live that far away from them.

23 degrees? Man, that'd be a heat wave 'round these parts! Very, VERY low teens this week have been the *high's* out this way! Typically, sub-zero at night! So, if you're looking for sympathy, fo-get-it! Yeah, I hate the cold, too, especially the older I get. Thank goodness for the Hot Dawg in the shop!

So Rich,

I won't be seeing you in the deep freeze this winter??? Could use some experienced help with shop tips and techniques.

It is so cold and crisp! Real refreshing.

My Avatar is taken skiing in Montana when it was twenty below with a -30 wind chill. Thank goodness my hands were warm.

I skied Big Sky Years back when it was reported -80 wind-chill. Much younger then. This weather is like sushi. It's an acquired taste.

You’re all welcome to come visit this time of year. We just built an Ice castle for our winter carnival.

PS I hate hot humid weather

Tyler,
Ahhh...All you young pups are like that! Used to be when it hit zero up here, I'd finally put the shorts away and get a long-sleeved shirt on! The older I get, that "zero mark" keeps climbing! Enjoy it while you can!

Spent 20 years down there in Woodbridge VA Rich...I'd rather be up here in the cold. Something about being south and cold that just ain't right! I hated the summers more though...felt like I was taking a suction on the tailpipe of an old Chevy.

Richard -

Let me see if I have this straight - You don't like cold weather? Is that you are trying to say?

Come a few short miles farther south to the Hampton Roads area. The proximity to the ocean helps moderate the temperatures and you won't be that far from the grandkids. Kind of sounds like a chamber of commerce ad doesn't it? Whenever the weather is like this, I have noticed the dividing line is between Richmond and Williamsburg.

But good news - it is almost February and spring is not that far away. At least spring-like temps.

Stay warm,
Ted

I woke up and it was 9 degrees below zero this morning. There is 2 feet of snow on the ground and it is supposed to snow all week. Spring is only 2 months away

Hey Bob......Send me some of that down this way would ya?

Glenn Clabo - I'm whichoo buddy.....I can take the cold better than I can take 113 Degrees and 95% Humidity. A visiting buddy of mine said that this is the only place he has ever been where even the crack of your butt sweats.!!!!! The air is thick and hot....I like winter time. The only season I don't like is summer.......BTW, did I mention that I don't like summer?
Thanks & Happy Wood Chips,

With as many problems I'm having with the house and cold weather this year I have to agree that the really hot and humid days are worse. I can always put on a heavier coat but there comes a point where I can't take anything more off.

It was 14 degrees here in Tidewater VA this morning and right now at 6:00pm it is 18. People who live in Wisconsin, Minnesota, etc. are supposed to have bone chilling weather. We Virginians don't take kindly to being plunged into a "Winter Purgatory".

Waaah I want 40 degree winter days again.

Sheeesh...Another one with a heat wave going on! Now that I think about it, I'm not sure I remember the last time we were above freezing over here! Time to break out the winter jacket, I guess.
