Best place to download music?

I'm looking to download music to my computer (from the web) and then be able to burn it to CD so i can play it in my home stereo and truck. Any reliable sites out there? What should i look for?

I don't mind paying for the music, but i want it to be legal.

Itunes here too. If you want, you can also buy Itunes gift cards in many stores. I've even seen some stores that have the Coinstar machine have a deal where instead of the usual 8-9% ripoff fee, you can turn in your change for iTunes cards with no fees.

eMusic is a cheaper alternative to iTunes. Not nearly the selection, but the price is right.

Every week new stuff.

Its all free and its all legal.

These are new artists looking to be discovered.

And local bands.

Anybody who is in a working band, you know not a super star is

is putting there stuff online for recognition.

I know because I have about 120 gigs of free legit legal music

Amazon's download site seems to be completely gone....but nothing

Before you go burning 200 gigs of music, you may want to burn a few songs and see how you like the quaility of them, most of these sites offer less that excat reproduction of a CD, depending on bit rate, some sound pleanty good for background noise, and some sound like the transisitor radio I had in the 60's.

I find working out a borrowing/bater/whatever system with friends and their CD's works better, whatever works for ya though.

Not to hijack the thread, but can Itunes music only be downloaded to and Ipod or can you do it to any MP3 player. If you download from Itunes, then burn to a cd, can you put the music wherever you want it?

I download Itunes to my PC and burn whatever I want to on CD to play in my truck.

I did the i-tunes thing and it works well; high quality tracks and fast downloads but at a buck each i'll keep looking.

What i like to do is listen to the radio in the shop and when a song stricks my fancy, go download it. That way i don't need to buy an entire CD for just a couple songs which is what i've done in the past. Now with football season upon us my local rock station (98 Rock) is nothing but football;

Count Down to Game Day with those dumb interviews that restate the obvious,

and the dreaded Post Game Day Wrap Up with yet even more of those dumb interviews.

Anyway, now i'll able record some tunes on a few CD's, put them in the changer and blissfully make some of the best looking firewood you've ever laid eyes on.

No peer to peer networks. Don't ever use one of those. There are cases popping all over the country that all share some common elements.
1.) a Peer to peer network with kids downloading
2.) a child pornography ring smart enough to figure out how to use a set of proxies to hack the peer network and load other people's computers with encrypted kiddie porn which they use as free storage.
3.) someone gets wise
4.) the local prosecutor refuses to take seriously that the kid hasn't a clue what the pornographers did to him & is a victim of a crime ring. In one case out west the prosecutor knew and understood and said "we need to send a message" while he prosecuted what he knew was innocent victim of cyber crime.
5.) possession of kiddie porn (encrypted or not) is a serious felony ( you don;t even need to know you have it).

Unfortunately in those cases where the prosecutors do back off the families are still out several $$ figures in legal defense and their name is smeared in the dirt. There is no where to go (no office, no court, nowhere at all) to get your good name back.

Once convicted (even of a lesser) the innocent victim will find that getting into college may prove impossible and employers will check criminal records. Over all I submit that between the risks, the costs, the reputation issues, and spending the rest of your life trying to explain that you were an innocent victim over and over again isn't worth the risk.

You're right Cliff, the P to P network idea is quite scary and certainly not worth the risk if for no other reason than the virus and spyware stuff you can recieve. I've seen first hand what those networks can do.

I'll stick to the legal ($$) downloads.
