    Tool for HF

Looking to start turning a few hollow forms. Am wondering about a good “starter” tool. Am looking at the Sorby with the bent neck. IF this is suitable for 4-6” dia pieces, would I also get additional cutters? If so, which ones?

Many thanks from the suburbs of beautiful, downtown Deatonville, VA…………………

Look at tools from Don Pencil or Trent Bosch. Diferent styles but both affordable and can be purchased 'size appropriate'.

I just did the same thing, and I went with the Monster tools made by Randy Privett (a member here). I opted to go with a system, but I think you can get individual tools if you don't want to drop a bunch of cash at once. I chose the monster tools after reading mixed experiences with the sorby and others, reading good reviews of the monster tools, having seen Randy readily available to help out here on SMC if you have questions, and knowing that I can eventually upgrade my set to a captive system when I'm ready. Give them a look.

    Rolly Munro

The Rolly Munro hollowers are not cheap, but you won't have to (or WANT to ) buy anything else.
I don't get anything but the satisfaction of fellow users for recommending these tools. I recommend the smaller one (first), and order an extra articulating link, it REALLY extends the versatility!
