I started turning October 2005 making a pen for LOML out of a very special (to us) tree. Since I didn't have a lathe, I used a drill press, rasps, and a LOT of sandpaper. I enjoyed it, and made a few more. In March 2007, I bought my little lathe and have turned a lot of stuff since.

    Glenmore sitting at his lathe

Hello everyone. This is me sitting at my lathe during my own little pen drive. Did 220 slime line kits for my local National Guard. Really a satifying feeling and accomplishment.

    When did you join SMC?
Feb, 2007 - it says so in my profile at least, feels like longer (I'm not an active poster but I do read a lot).

How did you find out about this site?
It's all over the 'Net', you can't miss it :-) Actually I'm unclear about what took me so long, but then I'm only turning since around 2006.

What do you enjoy the most about SMC?

The great atmosphere of people with a genuine will to help.

What is the make, model and year of your lathe?
JET 1014 (Manual) - my first lathe and then bought:
JET 1642 EVS PRO - 2 (they really managed to confuse with that) I have had it for about a year now (bought it Christmas 2007).

    What is your lathe's capacity?
10" above bed, 14" between centers
16" above bed (head stock slides to end of bed to provide extra outboard turning capacity), 42" between centers
