Question on #95 technique?

Recently picked up a LN #95 as a birthday present for me. The problem is that I can't seem to get a repeatable 90 degree edge with it. I checked the fence to make sure it's square so I'd guess it's probably my technique.

Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong or tricks for using this one?

Hi Cliff,

You would be tilting the plane while it is moving from one end to the other--at least as long as there is an even projection of the blade out of the mouth.

If the blade is slightly askew, an edge plane will not cut a 90 degree edge even if you keep the fence pressed against the face of a board.

Check the projection--that squares the blade to the sole and side. Then use one hand to press the side against a board's face while powering the plane with the other.

In time you will use one hand to do this.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I tried them with the plane today and my edges are now coming out 90 degrees.

The local Woodcraft is heaving a sigh of relief since I won't be taking it back now.
