    Hock Blade for 112

I put a new Hock blade in my Stanley 112 this weekend and what a difference it made. The Stanley blade was much thinner and I had a difficult time adjusting the angle of the blade for a good cut. The thicker Hock blade seems very forgiving in this area. I ground and honed it on my Tormek, then removed the burr with 500, 1000 and 1500 grit sandpaper. It was very easy to put a burr on the edge. I tried different angles and and while there was some difference in the thickness of the shavings, it took an almost vertical angle to produce noticable chatter. I wish I'd replaced it sooner.

People often vere away from them becuase of cost...but like most everything else...you get what you pay for. Also, when you look at some of the higher end(..also higher price) planes, you will notice bigg beefy irons and chip breakers. more mass equals more stability....less chatter...and that's a wonderful thing.
