I know I read an article somewhere, but I've spent about 2 hours searching and can't find it again. It briefly mentioned finishing techniques for jewelry or silverware boxes. If I remember correctly some finishes would help to prevent tarnishing. I'm making a silverware storage box for a Christmas gift out of walnut, and it will be lined with the ant-tarnish fabric. I love the deep color that oils bring out on walnut, so I was thinking of the classic 1/3 BLO, 1/3 Turpentine, 1/3 Varnish mix that I really loved on a woodworkers pieces at a craft show. Any other recommendations? I know shellac is quite popular in these parts. I'm still new at this, and don't have any spray equipment. I was really hoping for a wipe on finish for ease of application. I don't need a super-protective finish as this box will likely be used only 2-3 times per year and serve as a decoration of sorts for the rest of the year.
