    Maybe Gloat, Maybe shame

Well, Looks like I have a Delta 1460 on the way.
Price, wanted $650 offered $350, looks like we settled on $400.00

Has a box of chisels and steady rest plus a chuck.

    Pics soon.

I know I have seen them cheaper and more $$ so maybe not a super deal, but think I will be happy.

    Pic soon.........

    Pics

Ok, So I know the story No pics - No lathe.....

Well after the cristmas madness and other delays here they are.

Runs good, bearings are making a little noise, are they servicable? I know replacements are available, but they feel tight just a little noisy.

    Thanks
    John

John I would suggest that you make sure that the bearings have plenty of lubrication and give it try.

    Old Gray is a Beauty

John, I have a similar old Delta Rockwell that I turn on. I love it! You should enjoy many years of use on this beauty.

Ohhh very nice. I like old iron!!! I do beleive that at 400 it's a not a gloat though. It's more like a GLOATICUS MAXIMUM.

    Thanks for the reply,

I will try to tear into it this weekend and see if I can get some grease into the old bearings. Does anyone know if they are sealed?

    thanks

Good deal on a good lathe...

    John,
That's a fine machine---looks to be in good condition---comes with a nice suite of chisels and accessories. The 2-piece tailstock has lateral adjustment and accepts shims so you can get the tail center smack on the headstock center.
I have had a like model apart and found bearings were shielded, but not sealed. With effort you can manually squeeze grease past the shields and into the bearings.
Pay attention (draw yourself a picture) to the number and order of the shims on the shaft as you disassemble: the wavy washers/shims accomodate longitudinal clearances. Makes the difference between endplay on the shaft and preload on the bearings.
If you're going to the effort of full disassembly to gain access, why not start with a fresh set of bearings?
