    Incidentally, my 12 year old niece was in the shop today and I put her to work trying out this little guy. I think these blocky wood planes have a real advantage for small hands/kids. She took to it like nothing.

    Thank you for taking the time to do a photo essay as you went. I may just have to have a go at one.

  4. Do it Mike. You won't regret it. I can already feel the difference between this and a metal plane regarding tweaking an edge angle. Grasping the plane body gives a completely different feel for accuracy than tilting a metal plane with the tote in your hand. Not necessarily better, just different. It's a change, and seems like it might open up some different possibilities. On the other hand, it has a totally different feel in other cases where one is used to having a very "thin" toe, as in a 9-1/2 block, where you can pinch plane between fingers. This type of plane will be interesting to get to know.
