Oak Floors in Kitchen and Cabinets

    Hi all,

We have oak floors in our kitchen and are looking to redo our cabinets. We really don't want painted cabinets or oak cabinets. But we can't figure out what other natural wood cabinets would go with the oak floors..

Any ideas on what natural / stained wood cabinets would look good with the oak floors? Thanks!

Are the floors light, medium, or dark? White oak or red?

They are white oak and a nice light to medium golden color.

If you want to go light, you could use maple or birch, or maybe knotty pine for a more rustic look. For dark, walnut or mahogany. I wouldn't use oak for the cabinets, unless it's quarter sawn, I think the grain of flat sawn oak is pretty ugly.

We were already leaning towards mission style cabinets.. I like the idea of quartersawn white oak with the dark finish. Now where to find some nice quatersawn white oak in So. California.. Thanks for the great suggestions.

That was going to be my suggestion...QS WO, mission flat panel design and a darker tone not unlike fumed for some contrast with the floors. Very much in character and a great look. You can also do some accents like pegs and even pulls with a darker or ebonized species.
