Need bookshelf ideas

My mom clipped this photo from a catalog and would like me to build a similar shelf. However she thinks this one is too "curvy" but she also doesn't want straight and modern either. She does want it to step back like this so that it doesn't appear to stick as far into the room where it is going. Anyone seen or built anything similar that I could look at for ideas?

The shape and step-back design reminds me of a "ladder bookshelf" also known as a "leaning bookshelf". If you google either of those terms using their image search you will get a lot of hits. Maybe one of those would be more to your mother's liking, as they all seem to be fairly linear instead of curvy.

One thing to note is that these types of bookcases are designed to go directly against the wall, so if yours needs to stand alone you would have to modify it to have some sort of back.
