    bar top finish question

My buddy is building a bar from reclaimed barn wood. He said it is weather with many grooves etc. so the top isn't anywhere near smooth. He has a few questions:
-What type of bar top finish is preferred? Does it have a sealer for the cracks etc. (the bar top will have a piece of paneling underneath to absorb any drips from the finish).

-He also wants to place a couple turkey feathers under the finish. does he have to use a spray adhesive to keep the feathers in place then apply the finish? Will the finish eat away a scene that is painted on the turkey feather or should he apply a spray poly on it to protect it before applying the finish.

-will this finish also protect wood used on flooring? he is using an 8 inch by 8 inch beam he is going to cross cut at one inch thicknesses and lay down as a parkay floor. if not, what should he use for that part of the project.

    any help would be great.
    thanks,
    spike

I would use 2 part epoxy. It is self leveling and durable. Some
guys put a top coat of Rockhard over it.

Checkout the Home Bar Top thread that just got pushed to the top. It should answer most of your questions.
