    top coat for bath doors

    Hi All...
I am finishing new 3 panel glass wood doors for our masterbath. They are solid wood and came with a primer. I basically reprimed them and sprayed a BM pearl finish paint. The BM finish is a eggshell but wanted to top coat, 2006 years annual FWW finishing suggested a top coat for added protection. The article doesnt list which top coat but the article pic shows a can of varnish.
After reading varnish on cans, they recommend over wood only and not painted surfaces. I decided to bump up to a semi gloss finish so shellac is out. What about laquer this is the only other top coat that lists ok for painted surfaces. But it(Deft brand) lists in bold not to spray so I am back to a brush so now my spray finish is comprimised.
    What to do? Suggestions?

    thanks
    Chris

uhh, my post wasent very clear, typical when your in a rush.

Here I go again...as mentioned, I want to spray on a protective top coat over a quality BM paint which was sprayed on.
Varnish: instructions on a can instruct to use on wood not paint
Shellac: but this gives me a pale finish, now I want these doors to be semi gloss.
Laquer: instructions indicate to use brush only and not to spray.

So I am afraid to use a brush again after I sprayed on smooth coats of paint. I have sprayed acrylic laquer paints with thinned thinner but dont want to waste since this product (Deft Top Coat) writes in bold not to spray.
Suggestions? THinking of spraying on the laquer anyway?

    thansk for your input..
    Chris

The Deft can be sprayed if thinned and you have a safe environment to do so, but it may also eat the paint. Lacquer thinner will melt many finishes. If you used quality paint and proper prep, I don't understand the need to clear coat over the paint...

thanks Jim, I forgot to mention the paint is Latex so lacquer thinner may eat and cause me more problems. Its a BM peral finish so not your average big box paint.
I should have realized latex was not the way to go for doors and trim.
