The significant problems we encounter cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.
The penalty for inaccuracy is more work
LOL! I think shipping is going to be something else, it's got to hop the pond... Might have to resell it to keep the LOML happy!
I'm guessing $50-$80 shipping?

Thats what I'm thinking too. I got a little Preston from the UK a couple years ago, and it was a bunch cheaper, but this no doubt weighs more. Interesting how much less it costs to get something shipped from Australia or New Zealand.
Well, look at it this way. It looks like its in really good shape.
Where did I put that tape measure...
One has to wonder why you guys bid on something you don't want/need? There are other guys who might want/need something that you have "pushed" the price on, and therefore they drop out. IMO this sort of practice is what gives ebay a bad name!!!!
IMHO, I got it for a bargain. I suppose that is what you are looking for as well. If we all got stuff for free off ebay, do you suppose anyone would continue to list? I'll bid what I consider to be a price I would like to pay, and if I get it, great. Turns out this time, I really expected this plane to go higher, and didn't expect to win it. I wanted an A5, preferably an earlier model, but this will do. IMO this practice is exactly what gets good tools listed on ebay.
So, if you didn't want this one, why bid on it? Didn't you know what you were bidding on? Why not wait for the one that you DO want?
It may be true that your "practice" encourages good tools to be listed, but doesn't it also encourage the listing of crap, because sellers are encouraged by the inflated prices to try to sell stuff that wouldn't get 50c in a flea market?
Obviously I wanted it, and I bid what I considered to be a bargain price to get it. I would have bid more on a pre-war though. Now that I own this one though, I'll probably have to raise the price on a few others. Hate to have infill smoother, but not a panel plane....
Stephen, with all do respect, are you suggesting that ebay operate in some other economic system than capitalism? Perhaps ebay should be socialistic? That way everyone would split the tools up! It'd be great
Turns out that I have a certain amount of disposable income that I want to spend on my woodworking fettish. I earned that privelage through an exceptional amount of hard work, and a bit of luck. If I choose to spend money on this plane, or the Spiers that ended the next day, it is my perogative. Likewise, it is your right to bid against me, and set a true market price. If you don't like the system, guess you're out of luck, because looks to me like ebay is here to stay.
As for the listing of "crap", who cares? Don't bid on it! Crap listers get penalized by ebay when there junk dosen't sell, and they still have to pay the fees.
