    How Hot

I was just wondering how hot the laser is when it engraves.
I have a 30 watt synrad tube in my spirit engraver.
    Just curious if anyone knows.

If it overheats, it will shut down. Dunno what the actual temp no is. They get quite hot when under a heavy load.

    Laser temp

    Jerry,

Are you looking for the temp of the laser tube (outside casing) or the temp of the laser beam as it engraves or vector cuts?

Laser tube casing is likely warm to the touch, not hot enough to burn. It it's too hot, self thermo-switch coupler do-hickie will shut it down.

If you're looking for the temperature of the laser beam as it engraves or cuts; too many variables to determine exact temp; material, power/speed/frequency/DPI, exact power output of the laser, focal lens used etc.

Something like a laser power meter would work but with the material variable, I wonder if you'd get a correct reading. Also laser power meters are designed to read max output, not pulsed output.
