    Picture Frame x 3

    Hi All,
I have been asked to engrave picture frame that has 3 - 8"x10" openings. The catch is I also have to make the frame. I do not generally do a lot of flat work. I have the tools but tend to do mostly lathe work. The frame needs to be able to stand on the floor or be hung on a wall. What I am looking for is plans if they exist or guidance on design and joinery if they don't.

    Thanks,
    Bob Wilson

Do you have a better idea as to what design, size, and edge condition you're going for? Butt joints, mitres?

    Matt:
There are really no constraints on the design. I was thinking that there would be 4 mitered corners and 2 tenon joints for the dividers. The overall size would be about 18" by 46". This would accomodate a 4" wide area of wood aroung each frame part. I was thinking I would hinge a tiangle piece on the length of the back so that it could be either free standing or hung on the wall.

You mention illustrative three wood frames in effect

even though it is one (18 x 46 cited) with stiles.... why not just one frame (horiz or vertical) with a long mat cut with three openings in the single mat. Making the overall frame as rail and stile in concept makes for easy corners.
