    first burl!

    Hi all,
I have not turned much lately, but was cleaning the garage and found this piece of wood I was given about a year ago. It started out as an odd shape, and it took some time to figure out how to get the most out of it while keeping some bark. This was my first try with a burl (I am not even sure what kind of wood), and I could not believe how hard this stuff is! There are still some tool marks to get out. I just sanded to 600 and oiled it with a blend of lanolin and beeswax. It is about 5" tall, 6" in diameter with 3/8" walls (afraid to go thinner, thought I'd lose more bark)

    Hi Paul,

Looks good, can you give us a internal pic so we can see the grain.

Very nice - could it be cherry? I have turned some cherry before that looks like that. Nice job.
