I am mentoring a fellow turner, and while at his house the other day I noticed some wood that he said a friend had given him. There were some pieces that he did not want, so I took them off his hands One was a piece that said madrone burl, and this is what it turned out to be. I've never turned madrone before, and it seems more like a crotch piece, but still very nice wood. It is 10 1/2 " by 1 1/4". I sanded this one a lot more than usual and wend to 800 grit. Finished in several coast of home brew oil, beall buffed tripoli and white diamond, then renaissance wax.
Thanks for looking - comments/critiques welcome.
