    Black Limba Platter

This is my third platter. It is 12" X 1 3/4" and made of Black Limba. This stuff turns real nice. Couple of coats of Danish oil and then Beall buffed.

I am still deciding the best way to sign the bottom. I am not sure how permanent a sharpie is and I am not confident of my woodburning skills. I have a cheapie low powered woodburner. Suggestions welcomed.

Nice! Can you epoxy something to it to show you made it?

Very nice work Mike! Beautiful wood and form! I use an Archive Pen - found at most craft stores and its waterproof, fadeproof, etc.

Beautiful piece Mike. I always sign with a fine sharpie first then put on the finish.

That's pretty, Mike. I use a fine Sharpie also.

Do you acess to a Dremel tool they work pretty good if your surface is smooth.

Very nice - I made a bowl from black limba last year and found it was easy to turn. I typically use a sharpie, but if I have a flat surface, I'll use my branding iron

Get yourself an engraver. HF sells them for a pretty cheap price. It will do a pretty nice job and be a lot more permanent than Sharpie. I just got some pieces back from a gallery and the signatures were just about rubbed off. I couldn't believe it. All are engraved now. Let's see that rub off.

Nice work, Mike; I like the transition from the broad flat rim to the bead/raised rim of the bowl portion. The wood has a bit of the butternut look to it, at least in the photos.

I've used a cheap woodburner, too. It was adequate but not that easy to control, certainly not enough to write in script and not have it look totally spazzy.
