    Red oak chair clear finish

If have much experience w/HVLP lacquer and brush on poly like Deft.

I have made some chairs but thought a lacquer might not durable enough and brush on poly leaves drips and brush marks especially on a complicated shape like a chair.

I was thinking of trying a wipe on poly with several coats.

How would that be for durability on a chair?

    Any thoughts?

Polyurethane simply adds additional abrasion resistance. It tends to be softer than other finishes as a result.

If you want a wipe on finish then something like rockhard or Waterlox would be a good choice.

Several waterbase finishes are available for spray applications that would also work well. I really like the Target coating options and a visit to there or Homestead finishing should give you lots of choices.
